Leigh Otterson-Walter
Managing Director

Leigh Otterson-Walter was born in South Africa, where she lived until she was nineteen years old. Leigh lead a fairly nomadic life as a child, moving from town to town due to her father’s work, and became very adaptable to both change, and new surroundings from an early age. She even attended the same High School twice!

At just nineteen years old, with £150, a backpack and a mug, Leigh moved to the UK where she went on to be accepted onto an exclusive Training Programme in Corporate Hospitality and Event Management at the very prestigious Harrods of Knightsbridge, London. She then moved into a successful career in Event Management and Logistics within the Pharmaceutical industry where she worked for ten years.

Travel has always been on the top of Leigh’s list of priorities, and she has lived in both Malta and Israel, as well as the UK and South Africa. She has also traveled to more than twenty other countries.

By nature, Leigh is a planner – everything in her life is scheduled, planned, diarised and carried out with precision. Details are important to her, and this can be seen in all aspects of her work. In 2012 Leigh started The Blue Penguin Company Ltd, when she noticed a gap in the market for high-quality, bespoke, Educational and Cultural Programmes. She wanted to provide a tailor-made, fully-managed service for her clients whereby every tiny detail of their trip was taken care of, without the need for them to spend hours researching options and booking individual elements with a number of unknown service providers.

Since 2012 Leigh has continued to provide exceptional and memorable programmes to hundreds of clients, many of whom return year after year because they appreciate the care, dedication and quality of service she offers them.

Leigh currently lives on the beautiful Sussex Coast of England with her husband, three children and Labrador.

Alex Walter
Director

After finishing university where he studied Chemistry with Management Studies, Alex embarked on a career for a multinational American travel and finance company. However, in his late 20’s he went back to studying to embark on a career change to work in healthcare. Since then, Alex has attended three more universities and now works as an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, working mainly in General Practice (Family Doctors’ Practice and at the local hospital).

Alex has a long history of teaching, and currently teaches other healthcare professionals medical related subjects. However, he has also worked with young people in an educational setting since he was a teenager himself, especially in outdoor pursuits; camping, expeditions and of course, first aid.

He helped to set up The Blue Penguin Company with his wife Leigh in 2012. When the students are in England, he provides 24 hour medical cover for them and also organises and leads the social activities for the students. He takes every opportunity to help the students improve their English and discover more about English customs, traditions and culture.

Luisa Schiappacasse
Italian Administrator

Luisa was born in Italy where she lived until she was seventeen years old before moving to the UK to complete her education.

Luisa joined our Company in April 2019 and is the newest member our team. In her short time with us Luisa has already proven to be an important part of our operations team, as well as bringing a wealth of knowledge with her having recently graduated from the University of Sussex with a BA (Hons) in Media and Communications, and her previous experience of working with a local Language School in Brighton.
